Jasti Rao named The Peorian of the Year

Dr. Jasti Rao, a world leader in cancer research who is based in Peoria, is the winner of the first The Peorian of the Year Award.

Rao, head of the Department for Cancer Biology and Pharmacology as well as senior associate dean for research at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, was presented the award during a reception Aug. 1 at Par-A-Dice Hotel.

I don't doubt that a couple conventioneers in Tampa threw peanuts at a CNN camerawoman the other day. There is no reason for the woman or other witnesses to lie about it.

I do, however, wonder if it was racially motivated because the camera operator, Patricia Carroll, is African American or if it was an attack on journalists in general.

One of the peanut throwers said "This is how we feed the animals." Well, ya know, journalists...
