I remember well the voting rights lawsuit brought against the City of Peoria in 1987, the federal suit that resulted in the cumulative voting system now in place for at-large City Council seats.

Morton continues striving for globalization

That's why Morton Mayor Norm Durflinger will be joining Gov. Pat Quinn on a trade mission to China in September, a trip the village hopes will enable it to capitalize on business it already has landed from the Asian giant.

LST-325 back in Peoria

The LST-325, the World War II vessel that was part of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach in June 1944, is back in Peoria.

The ship is docked on Peoria's riverfront, next to the RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center, and will remain for public tours until next Monday.lstjumers-003

LST-325 returning to central Illinois

The LST-325, the World War II vessel that was part of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach in June 1944, is returning to central Illinois this weekend, with plans for docking and public tours in Peoria and Henry.

The ship will be docked on Peoria's riverfront when the reunion of LST-325 crew members and those who rode the ship will be held at the Hotel Pere Marquette Sept. 7 through 10.

City prepares answers for questions about redistricting

The city of Peoria has developed a FAQ sheet on its website to answer many of the questions about redistricting of City Council seats.

The sheet can be found at http://www.ci.peoria.il.us/redistricting.

City seeks neighborhood leaders

The City of Peoria is looking for a few neighborhood leaders. It wants to honor them for the work they do.

Nominations are being sought for the 2011 Neighborhood Leadership Awards, which will be presented at a banquet Oct. 13 at Four Points by Sheraton in downtown Peoria.
