The Illinois Mission of Mercy, a two-day event at the Peoria Civic Center this weekend, will see 2,000 patients and provide an estimated $1 million in dental service for free.

The event, open to adults and children on a first-come, first-served basis, will open at 6 a.m. both Friday and Saturday and the clinic doors will remain open until the clinic fills to capacity, according to a release from the Illinois state Dental Society Foundation, which is sponsoring the event.

No appoints or pre-registration is necessary and there are no eligibility requirement. All services will be provided by license professionals and they include cleanings, fillings, extractions and limited partials.

The emphasis will be on basic dental care, the release said. Also, it said,

• Patients with serious health problems may not be able to be receive dental treatment

(for example, extremely high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, severe disabilities).

• Patients will not receive all the care and dental work that is needed; the most critical dental

problems will receive priority treatment.

• Recommended items for patients to bring to the Mission of Mercy program are a ist of current medications and a one day supply, baby supplies for a full day (diapers, formula, etc.), and something to help you pass the time such as reading material, knitting, crossword puzzles, etc.
