A fashion show aimed at raising money for the American Heart Association that will also feature potential top models from central Illinois is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Peoria.

Presented by Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, the Red Dress Fashion Show also may help local women find apparel and accessories for the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball, scheduled for Feb. 23 at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria.

Sponsors for the event include Macy’s, which is supplying the red dresses for the fashion show, OSF Health Care and Walgreens.

The Peorian is proud to be one of the media partners for the fashion show, along with WHOI-TV and CW4.

The Red Dress Fashion Show is the finale of a three-part event. The first part has started as the CW4 has launched a search in central Illinois to find candidates for the next season of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model.

The top 15 from that search will be asked to be the models for the fashion show.

The second part of the overall event will be Feb. 2 when Tricoci University of Beauty Culture hosts a “boot camp” for potential models to learn how to dress, act and behave if they want to be noticed.

Emily Ferrell, media/PR director for AdCo Advertising Agency, the parent company of the Peorian, said the main event (the Red Dress Fashion Show) “is basically going to be a girl’s night out” while raising money to support research into women’s heart disease.

The doors for the fashion show will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show scheduled for 7 p.m.

“The Red Dress Fashion Show is a great opportunity for women to get together and have a fun evening with friends. Get the red carpet experience as you sit back and check out the latest red dress styles that you will be able to order that night.

Then, enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as you shop the Underground, filled with shoe, purse and accessory vendors. And don’t forget the door prizes,” the website said in promoting the event.

Added Ferrell, “It will be sort of a precursor to the Heart Ball in that women can pick out their dresses and accessories for that important event, if they want.”

Tickets to the Heart Ball also will be available at the fashion show, she said.

Holly Buescher, general manager of Tricoci University of Beauty Culture in Peoria, said the school values more than just teaching its students how to cut or color hair or do skin treatments. “We want our students to learn ethical values and be able to step up in leadership roles in their communities and such lessons are taught by truly starting in the foundation of their initial education that we provide here at the school,” she said.

“We wanted to participate with the American Heart Association specifically since heart disease affects such a large number of women and we are a career field dominated by women. I think almost every one of my students, staff and clinic guests know someone who has been affected by this condition and disease. By providing a community awareness and philanthropic efforts concerning heart disease, I feel that we, as an educational facility, are acting as a role model for our students, alumni and Peoria salon community and we are proud to be a part of the solution for such an amazing cause,” Buescher said.

Tickets for the fashion show are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. They can be purchased online at

Ferrell said the Red Dress Fashion Show will become an annual event and it is likely it will be extended to other markets. “We believe it will be a big success here and in other markets,” she said.
