CREATING A NEW
CHRISTMAS KEEPSAKE
Mike and Debbie Hallar want to
start a new holiday tradition, from
the Acadmey of Screenprinting &
Awards to their loyal customers and
friends.
They have created a new keepsake
Christmas ornament, cut with a new
precision laser machine at their War
Memorial Drive shop, which they will
present to those people each year,
beginning this year.
The first limited edition ornament,
cut out of cast acrylic, shows a
skyline of downtown Peoria and says
“Christmas in Peoria 2013.” Only 50
were made; many will be given away
through a drawing at the store. No
purchase is necessary to enter.
Each ornament will come in a red
velvet cinch bag embossed with the
same words.
“This is something we wanted to do
for our most loyal customers and our
friends. Sort of like Rolan Johnson
used to do every year with the
Christmas ornaments he created that
became such treasures. We hope to
do something like that,” he said.
He said it also presents an
opportunity to show what ASA is
capable of doing with the equipment
in the shop and the artistic talents of
its employees.
“We aren’t going to charge for the
ornaments. We just want people to
enjoy them for years to come. From
our family to their family,” he said.
Entries for the ornament drawing can
be made at the shop until Dec. 16.

Academy of Screenprinting and Awards and the laser cutter that carves the ornament out of cast acrylic.
