AMY LACEFIELD
Recently, Amy moved to Peoria. While look-
ing out of her apartment window she noticed
a gathering, on the grass area in front of the
Peoria Civic Center. When the crowd cleared
she was able to see a monument that was dedi-
cated to the fallen Police Officers and Firemen of
Peoria. Grabbing binoculars she focused on the
monument and the names of those remembered.
My great great Grandfather was a Peoria po-
lice officer killed in the line of duty on Novem-
ber 28, 1917. I can see his name Samuel Moffatt,
engraved on the Fallen Officer Memorial. What
an amazing coincidence that just when I needed
a sense of family I found a reminder right in
view.”
Living downtown Peoria allows me the
opportunity to walk to the outdoor farmers mar-
ket, the rhythm kitchen, and the CEFCU stage
to listen to summer concerts. There is always
something to do and see. And the best part at
the end of the evening I can catch a carriage ride
home.
There is comfort and pride when I look out
my window and see both a part of my history
and a glimpse of my future.”
TREY MOWDER
Trey grew up in this area, he was originally
from Delevan moved to Peoria to attend Bradley
University, then moved to Chicago where he
practiced the art of being a stand -up comedian.
When asked why he returned to Peoria, Trey
said everyone in Chicago is in a hurry. He
missed family and friends and the slowness …
people here take the time to have a conversation
with you. Trey enjoys playing guitar with local
musicians, riding bikes around town and a be-
ing a part of a weekly vegetarian potluck group.
I love Peoria...especially the feeling of a main
street revival. There are new coffee shops, bars,
independent specialty stores, restaurants all up
and down Main Street. Neighborhood clean up
groups, a community garden, are some of the
projects taken on by just a bunch of people who
want to make a difference.”
Trey works at thirty-thirty coffee co. the
perfect blend of good coffee and time for slow
conversations.
STARTING WITH THIS ISSUE WE WILL ASK PEORIANS
WHAT THIS COMMUNITY MEANS TO THEM.
