 oup, presents An Afternoon of Music with the Philharmonic Chorale on Sunday
 , May 4, at 3:00 pm, in the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center
 , located on the East Peoria Campus. Tickets cost $12 for the general publi
 c and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased online
  at www.ArtsAtICC.com or by calling the ICC Performing Arts Center box offi
 ce at (309) 694-5136.\n\n\nThe concert will open with Haydn’s lively Gloria
  from his “Heiligemesse” of 1796, and continues with two more pieces from t
 he great masters: the hauntingly beautiful Agnus Dei by Edward Elgar and th
 e joyful motet, Exultate Deo, composed by Alessandro Scarlatti.  Also inclu
 ded in the opening section is the stirring and poignant Navy Hymn, Eternal 
 Father Strong to Save. The next part of the program features three rhythmic
 ally driving spirituals, including Soon Ah Will Be Done, which starts with 
 a conventional opening but soon kicks into a fun and funky gospel groove.\n
 \n\nThe concert continues with three beloved American folk songs, including
  Peace Like a River and a beautiful Irish ballad, Red Is the Rose, which wa
 s written by an anonymous poet in County Kerry, western Ireland. It is sung
  to the familiar Scottish air “Loch Lomond.” The concert concludes with a h
 umorous excursion into the Forest of Loo, and a foot-stomping version of an
 other American folk-tune, The Unclouded Day.\n\n\nA reception will follow i
 n the studio theatre of the Performing Arts Center. \n
